ATP Miami, Grigor Dimitrov is unreal! Carlos Alcaraz dominated and reached the semifinals

A big surprise in the last one quarter-final of the Masters1000 in Miami. Carlos Alcaraz (world no. 2), a big favorite for the Sunshine Double, was defeated by a sumptuous Grigor Dimitrov (n.12 in the ranking) with a score of 6-2 6-4.

Crazy performance from the Bulgarian who literally asphyxiated the Iberian and in 1 hour and 34 minutes of play a match was concluded in which Dimitrov showed off his immense repertoire. Alcaraz tried, producing a furious comeback in the second set (from 4-1 to 4-4), but in the final rush the number 11 seed showed he had more. It will therefore be the latter who will face the German in the semi-final Alexander Zverev.

In the first set Dimitrov is put to the whip in the first game, having to face a break point and Alcaraz does not stand out for pragmatism, sending out a backhand down the line that is anything but impossible. The Bulgarian saves himself and gets excited in response, with some amazing winners. Alcaraz is surprised and suffers the break. The tightrope walker from Murcia tries to recover, building three counter-break chances, but the number 12 in the ranking plays splendidly under pressure and confirms the 3-0. A Dimitrov show, showing variations in pace and cuts that completely put his opponent out of rhythm. In the fourth game Grigor doesn’t take advantage of two break points, but in the eighth he upsets Alcaraz and the curtain falls at 6-2.

In the second set the score does not change and in the fourth game the Bulgarian performs authentic magic, including a long response with the forehand that goes to the intersection of the lines (3-1). Carlitos is on the ropes and Juan Carlos Ferrero tries to keep him up, when in the sixth game there is the ball to make it 5-1 for Dimitrov. Alcaraz saves himself and in the next game shows some incredible winners. With the adrenaline pumping, another match seems to begin and the comeback is completed at 4-4. The Bulgarian, however, is very good at holding his turn on serve in the ninth game and in the tenth he performs other masterpieces and the curtain falls at 6-4.

Reading the statistics What stands out are the 24 winners compared to 14 free throws by the ATP n.12 compared to Alcaraz’s winners/unforced errors ratio of 18/17. In this context, the 44% of the points won by the Bulgarian in response to Carlos’ first had a significant impact on the economy of the match.
