The first reinforcement of Athletics Bologna, for the 2024 Serie A season, is Mattia Pancellini

The player born in 2001, a native of Grosseto, attended the XIV Course of the FIBS National Academy of Tirrenia (Livorno) in the 2017/18 academic year. From 2018 to 2020 the receiver from Grosseto played for Jolly Roger BC in the Serie A2 championship. In 2021, however, he moved to Big Mat-Villa Croci BSC Grosseto 1952 in Serie B. With the team led by manager Cappuccini, the new yellow-green athlete won, as an absolute protagonist, promotion to Serie A (season with 27 victories in faced with only 1 defeat) finishing the season with a batting average of .393 with 24 RBI, 1 home run, 5 triples and 5 doubles.

The following season, again with BSC, came a deserved stay in A2 with second place in the G1 group of Poule Salvezza. Finally, last season, Mattia moved to Bologna and played in the Serie A championship among the ranks of Longbridge 2000. His first experience in Bologna was not the best with the team led by manager Trombini who said goodbye to the top championship Italian relegation to Serie B. 2024, therefore, will be the second year under the Two Towers for Pancellini who arrives at Athletics Bologna. Mattia can play the role of catcher and first base, he bats left-handed and will be able to help the yellow-green team with his power in the box.

These are his words after the agreement with the Pilastro formation: ”I would like to take this opportunity to greet the entire yellow-green family. I thank you very much for welcoming me into your company and for the warm welcome. I can’t wait to get on the field to play this new season together with all of you. I’m sure that this year we will have fun and also get some important satisfaction. I can’t wait to meet all the new teammates and fans. See you soon!”.

These, however, are the words of the yellow-green Sports Director Martini: ”We are happy to have Mattia with us because he has very interesting characteristics for our team. He is a left-handed hitter and on defense he can play the roles of catcher and first base. Despite his young age, being from Grosseto, he has already accumulated several good baseball experiences, including in important teams and ambitious clubs. We hope that his stay with us coincides with the definitive leap in quality given that he does not lack his technical skills.”
