Aryna Sabalenková Speaks Out on the Tragic Death of Former Hockey Player Konstantin Koltsov

The current number two in the tennis rankings, Aryna Sabalenková, spoke for the first time about the death of former hockey player Konstantin Koltsov. The whole world thought that the two were still a couple, but Belarus has now refuted that. At the same time, she admitted that his death broke her heart.

Koltsov, a former Pittsburgh Penguins hockey player, died Monday night. According to Miami police, he committed suicide by jumping from a hotel balcony. The whole world believed that Koltsov was still in a couple with Aryna Sabalenkova, but before entering the tournament in Miami, the tennis player commented on the whole situation for the first time before Wednesday midnight and surprised the fans.

Konstantin’s death is an unthinkable tragedy, and even though we were no longer together, my heart is broken. Please respect my privacy and that of his family during these difficult times,” she wrote in the story on her own instagram.

Sabalenková surprised her fans with this statement, because the end of their three-year relationship was not known. A day earlier, the tennis public was surprised that even after the death of Koltsov, the Belarusian did not opt out of the prestigious tournament in Miami and completed training dressed entirely in black. According to Tennis Channel, she does not plan to withdraw from the tournament, but the organizers will accommodate her and Sabalenkova will not have to attend any press conferences.

And the organizers of the Sabalenka tournament helped once more. Her second round match (she didn’t have to play the first due to her commitment) against Paula Badosa was moved from the original Thursday date to Friday to give her more time to deal with the tragic news.
