Diario Viral at the awards ceremony for “The Best Athletes 2023”, held on Friday the 15th of this month at the Arequipa Coliseum, was not wrong in distinguishing 11 competitors who perfectly handle the pistol, rifle or compound or recurve bows.
All of them are practically permanent members of the national team of this sport, most train in the International club, some must stay sporadically in Lima for competitions.

This sport is practiced in Arequipa, especially in the International club, which is also identified as the rifle club, being one of the letters of introduction of the pioneer entity of shooting in our city.
It is necessary to point out that in the sport of shooting there are two modalities: sporting and archery. In Arequipa both types are practiced and the athletes are at a good level and prepared for the competitions that are scheduled at the national and international level.
ARCHERY. Considered an Olympic sport, to practice this sport a bow is used to shoot arrows. It is known that this discipline originated as a hunting necessity, as well as in war confrontations, now it is only practiced as a sport. There are different types of archery, they are divided into longbow, shortbow, crossbow, recurve and compound bow, the latter two are practiced by Arequipa shooters.
SPORT’S SHOT. In this modality, precision and speed are used with the handling of the firearm or compressed air weapon, rifle or pistol, in which the distance from the target varies with the type of weapon and ammunition.
The objective is to shoot at a fixed or moving target. In this sporting discipline, not only the shooter’s precision is tested, but also the concentration that must be at its maximum and the skill that every athlete who loves and practices sports shooting must possess. .
