Appointment of intended KNVB chairman Paauw postponed by The Passion

The meeting in which police chief Frank Paauw was to be appointed as KNVB chairman has been postponed. The meeting on March 28 will not take place at the request of the municipality of Zeist, because The Passion will take place on the same day.

Due to the musical Easter story, several traffic intersections are closed and Zeist is less easily accessible. Many visitors are expected and the municipality has announced that it needs all its attention to supervise the event.

“All agenda items of the extraordinary association meeting are postponed to the already planned regular association meeting on May 27. This means that the farewell of the current association chairman, Just Spee, will be postponed until that date,” the KNVB writes. “Spee has indicated that he is prepared to stay on until that date. The appointment of his successor will take place on May 27.”

Paauw, who is still chief commissioner in Amsterdam, is Spee’s intended successor. Although his nomination is not yet official, he is the only candidate. His arrival at the KNVB has not gone down well with Ajax supporters. They do not agree with his previous statements as football portfolio holder at the national police. For example, he said that he no longer wanted away crowds at European high-risk matches and that away fans who misbehave will no longer be welcome at the next away match.

The intention is for Paauw to start in Zeist on June 1, as planned.
