Anthony Edwards Calls out Referees in Timberwolves’ Loss to Lakers

Anthony Edwards, never one to shy away from speaking his mind, expressed frustration with the officiating after the Minnesota Timberwolves’ bitter 109-120 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Timberwolves were clearly at a disadvantage without Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns. As many experts expected, they were severely outnumbered in rebounding, their physical inferiority making itself felt.

What stood out most to Edwards, however, was the fact that his Wolves only went to the free throw line 13 times, while the Lakers got a whopping 29 free throws.

Even more surprising is that Lakers star Anthony Davis had as many attempts as the entire Minnesota team with 13. According to Edwards, this significant gap made it difficult to win the game.

Are the Lakers favored by the referees?

“Its hard. It’s hard every night when we don’t get to the free throw line as often as the other team. When one player hits more free throws than the entire team, it’s tough. It’s hard to keep up. When you miss a shot in the fourth quarter and they go to the free throw line every time, it’s hard.”

In doing so, Edwards played into the hands of those fans who claim that the NBA teams from the major US markets, which undoubtedly include the Lakers from Los Angeles around superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, are favored by the referees.
