Iniesta is one of three foreign footballers targeted by the Japanese Tax Agency for tax evasion, for a total of 2.1 billion yen (around 12.7 million euros) in undeclared income. According to the Osaka Region Tax Office, Iniesta allegedly failed to declare around 860 million yen (around 5.2 million euros) of his income as a player for Vissel Kobe. Authorities believe that during his residence in Japan, Iniesta was a tax resident in the country, as he lived with his family in the city of Kobe, where he also acted as a cultural ambassador. The Japanese Tax Agency asks the footballer, currently at the Emirates Club, to pay the mentioned sum, which includes penalties for tax arrears.
