Alpine skiing in Saalbach: Lara Gut-Behrami is Miss Super G

As of: March 22, 2024 10:55 a.m

Lara Gut-Behrami won the next crystal ball. A seventh place finish at the end of the season in Saalbach-Hinterglemm was enough for the Swiss to win the overall Super-G rankings.

Ester Ledecka won the last Super G this winter. The Czech woman was 0.28 seconds ahead of the Italian Federica Brignone at the finish. Kajsa Vickhoff Lie from Norway took third place (+0.30).

Crime story about a small crystal ball

The fight for the small crystal ball in the Super G developed into a real crime thriller: The Swiss Lara Gut-Behrami led with 69 points ahead of the Austrian Cornelia Hütter. The Swiss had 74 points on the Italian Federica Brignone.

But the overall World Cup winner had problems with the route. Brignone, on the other hand, showed an appealing ride and ended up in second place. How many riders would still move between the two opponents? Despite the warm temperatures, the slope held and Gut-Behrami was passed on. But in the end, seventh place was enough for her in the overall Super-G ranking. For the Swiss, it is her fifth crystal ball in the Super G. Gut-Behrami has already won the overall World Cup and the discipline ranking in the giant slalom this season. On Saturday she can still be crowned downhill queen.

Weidle is getting going again

Kira Weidle was the only German starter. The Starnberger showed a courageous drive and finished the Super G in sixth place. She left world champion Marta Bassino and overall World Cup winner Gut-Behrami behind her. Weidle got better and better at the end of the season: at the beginning of March she came fourth in the Super G in Kvitfjell. In Saalbach-Hinterglemm she was only 0.15 seconds short of the podium.
