Alfa Romeo: plans until 2026

STELVIO ELETTRICA IN 2025 – Waiting for the presentation of the compact crossover Alfa Romeo Milanexpected in April, the manufacturer has communicated its plans for the future in the medium term. Two new features will arrive alongside the Milano and the Tonale: the SUV Stelvio (in the second part of 2025) and the sedan Giulia (In the 2026). They will be produced in the province of Frosinone: the Cassino plant will be the only one in Europe to churn out cars based on the latest platform STLA Large of the Stellantis group, which was created to accommodate electric motors, but also internal combustion ones. The two new Alfa Romeos they should be battery operated only, but a final decision will only be made later. It will depend on regulatory choices (for example, the precise definition of the future Euro 7 regulation on harmful emissions and its introduction date) and, also, on the additional taxation for petrol models on individual markets.

> In the drawings above and below we have reconstructed the appearance of the new Milano, the small crossover which will debut in April and be in dealerships in September 2024.

SPORTS, WITHOUT A SHADOW OF DOUBT – Certainly, respecting the past of the house, the new ones Alfa Romeo Stelvio e Giulia they will boast an aggressive and streamlined style and first-rate technical characteristics. The modularity of the new platform makes it possible to obtain the proportions required by sports cars, in terms of bonnet length, the ratio between wheelbase and overhangs, height and minimum distance from the ground. The driving quality for which the current Giulia and Stelvio are known, they should be replicated and, indeed, improved thanks to suspensions with a sophisticated layout (let’s assume the classic “high” quadrilateral at the front and the multilink at the rear); furthermore, the active roll control (a device similar to that of the Ferrari Purosangue, with electric actuators that act on the shock absorbers by varying the height of the wheels with respect to the body in real time) and Active safety terrain detection (to maximize grip based on the type of terrain). As for performancethe company talks about less than 3 seconds in “0-100” for the most powerful versions (4×4, with one engine in front and one in the back), while 800 Volt technology will be used for speed up charging: the cars will accept up to 270 kW from ultra-fast charging stations and the battery capacity can range from 85 to 118 kWh; in the latter case, the autonomy should exceed 700 km.

ELECTRONICS EVOLVE – L’Alfa Romeo Stelvio it will be the first model of the Stellantis group with the systems (developed internally) STLA Brain and STLA SmartCockpit (which will later also be adopted in the Giulia). The first term defines the new electronic architecture, which allows functions and services to be created and updated through over-the-air updates, without waiting for the introduction of new hardware or having to go to the dealership. The SmartCockpit, however, reinterprets the classic “telescope” dashboard in a new way; the display will have graphics aimed at ease of consultation rather than adding a lot of information of marginal interest, while the infotainment will adopt a curved display; commands can also be made through the gaze or gestures of the driver and passengers. Among the other electronic devices, in addition to the many driving aids, there will be those in the package Xtended Visibility: the head-up display, the Night Vision (a system which, via an infrared camera, warns at night of the presence of people or animals on the road before they are illuminated by the headlights) and the digital internal rear-view mirror.

THE 33 IS READY (OR ALMOST) – The road until 2026 is therefore outlined, and there will be another important date in addition to those already mentioned: the first example of the supercar will be delivered in mid-December 2024 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, presented last summer, the subject of the latest tests and which represents a flagship for the Milanese company. From the… 33 cars which will be produced (all already purchased), three will be electric and the other 30 will be powered by the 3.0 V6 biturbo. And further on, what is there in the future of Alfa Romeo? The leaders of the house leave room for more hypotheses; a car larger than the Giulia or a compact could come into play, and coupés or spiders could be derived. But the variables, in a sector undergoing strong and rapid transformation, are too many to decide now.
