Alcalá de Henares hosts 1st edition of MADCUP Basket tournament, featuring top national and international teams

From this Thursday until March 27, Alcalá de Henares hosts the 1st edition of the MADCUP Basket. The Deputy Mayor Víctor Manuel Acosta and the Sports Councilor, Lola López, attended the presentation of this tournament that began this Thursday at the Espartales Sports Complex with the MADCUP Basket Elite. This is a U-16 men’s category tournament in which 7 of the best national clubs and a large international club participate. Thus, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, ​​Unicaja, Valencia Basket, Orange1 Basket, Casedemont Zaragoza Fundación, Betis, Joventut Badalona and the Italian team Orange 1 Bassano participate.

The Councilor for Sports, Lola López Bautista, wished “good luck to all the participants” and thanked the organization “for choosing our city as host of such an important tournament. Alcalá is the ideal city to host a tournament of these characteristics – she has stressed it – for its tradition of quality basketball, for its experience in betting on grassroots sport and for its historic hospitality and vocation for welcoming.

Starting on Sunday and until March 27, it will be the turn of the MADCUP Basket tournament. In this way, Alcalá de Henares becomes the epicenter of basketball this Holy Week with this 1st edition of the MADCUP. The city of Complutense will be ‘capital’ of youth basketball for a few days, with a tournament in which approximately 100 teams and more than 1,000 players will participate who will play their games in seven facilities spread throughout the city.

This is a tournament that will feature Madrid, national and international teams and that presents a clear commitment to making competition and sport accessible to everyone, treating grassroots athletes as authentic professional athletes.
