Alabama Transfer Kadyn Proctor Intends to Leave Iowa Football Program

IOWA CITY, Iowa– It was a perfect return home… until it wasn’t. On Tuesday afternoon, sources confirmed to 247Sports that Iowa OL Kadyn Proctor intends to leave the Hawkeye football program after arriving on campus in January. He’s expected to return to Alabama when the second transfer portal window opens. This news was first officially reported by The Athletic’s Scott Dochterman.

Proctor started 14 games for Alabama as a true freshman and posted an overall Pro Football Focus grade of 66.3 as a left tackle in the SEC. Following the season, there were rumors of Proctor putting his name into the transfer portal, and that smoke started to turn into fire when Alabama head coach Nick Saban announced his retirement, which then had Proctor putting his name into the portal during the open period.

“No bridges were burned,” Proctor said during an unofficial media scramble upon his return to Iowa. “That’s why it was so easy for me to pick them when I did enter the transfer portal, because we still have those relationships. And even after I was doing bad in the SEC and struggling, they hit me up and said, ‘We’re proud of you. You’re gonna get through this.’ And that’s what ultimately helped me with my decision, because they still believed in me.”

Proctor went through his ups and downs during his freshman year with Alabama but started to progress as the season went on, including a strong performance in the SEC Championship with a PFF grade of 78.4, his best performance of the season.

247Sports tabbed Proctor as the No. 2 overall prospect in the transfer portal, and the No. 1 offensive tackle. Proctor was the No. 1 offensive tackle in the 2023 class, and the No. 5 overall prospect.

“Fans, that doesn’t really matter,” Proctor said. “It’s ultimately, what do I want to do? At the end of the day, all fan bases are going to do that. What happened when I left Alabama? Same kind of stuff. I mean, you’re losing a big player, and you can’t really do anything about that. So you got to equate to all the hatred.”
