Alex Kroes, the new general manager of Ajax, does not think it is realistic that the Amsterdam team will compete for the national title next season. The former director of Go Ahead Eagles, who will also be responsible for Ajax’s transfer policy, stated this in an interview with Ziggo.
In conversation with Ajax’s main sponsor, Kroes tempers the expectations of Ajax supporters, although the general manager certainly wants to perform quickly with the current number five of the Eredivisie: “I have signed a contract for three years and I really want to my period competing for the title,” Kroes begins. “Only is that next year? I would love that. Is that realistic? Probably not,” Ajax’s general manager expects.

Kroes continues: “I am super ambitious, because it obviously feels very bad to see that club and my club like this. But it will not just be arranged in one summer,” the policymaker of the Amsterdam team is clear. “But we will all work hard to make that happen.”
With his statements, the Utrecht native tempers the expectations of the Ajax audience somewhat for next season. This year the Amsterdam team is having a bad year in the Eredivisie, but according to Kroes it is not realistic that all problems will be resolved next season.
