Air Canada creates ‘goodwill’ policy for Mexicans with booked flights – El Sol de México

Air Canada announced a “goodwill” policy for Mexicans who have booked a flight and have been affected by the imposition of visas by the Canadian government starting this Thursday night.

In a statement, the airline said that this measure consists of serving each passenger through its call centers or through travel agents, to determine their situation and offer them a solution.

Canada reinstated the visa requirement for Mexican citizens as of 10:31 p.m. on February 29.

The government led by Justin Trudeau justified the measure as a stop to the flow of refugee seekers.

Canada is the second country with which Mexico has the largest tourist exchange by air, only behind the United States.

According to the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC), last year 4.8 million travelers were registered between both countries, a figure 50 percent higher than that of 2022.

Air Canada transported one in 10 passengers between the two nations, according to the regulator’s statistics.

“It is important to highlight that Air Canada collaborates in a respectful manner, aligning itself with the new requirements that came into force on February 29, 2024, as well as each country with which it connects,” the airline said.
