Ahn Se-young defeated Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi 2-1 in the women’s singles final of the 2024 Badminton World Federation (BWF) French Open held in Paris, France on the 10th, and rose to the top five years after 2019.

Ahn Se-young advanced to the finals with a tough comeback win over Taiwan’s Tai Tzu-ying in the semi-finals the previous day.

Yamaguchi was no slouch either. Yamaguchi, who caught up to Ahn Se-young, who was ahead at the beginning of the game, by 12-12, took a 15-12 lead and scored six consecutive points. Ahn Se-young, who showed great concentration, tied the score and launched a counterattack, but ended up losing the first set to Yamaguchi, who showed a strong start.

However, Ahn Se-young pursued the game with persistent mental power and led the charge. After winning the second set at 21-13, he comfortably scored in the third set and ended the match with 21-10.

Ahn Se-young, who had suffered from injuries since winning the gold medal at the 2002 Hangzhou Asian Games, withdrew from the India Open last January due to a thigh injury. Ahn Se-young, who returned after focusing on her rehabilitation in the meantime, is set to win the title at the Porte de la Chapelle Arena, the venue for the upcoming Paris Olympics.

Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles final, Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jeong took second place, losing 0-2 to China’s Feng Yanze and Huang Dongping.
