Ahn Se-young (Samsung Life Insurance), world number one in badminton women’s singles, played lightly without overdoing it and reached the quarterfinals of the 2024 Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour French Open (Super 750).

Seyoung Ahn defeated world number 27 Xu Wenqi (Taiwan) 2-0 (21-19 21-11) in the women’s singles round of 16 at the Adidas Arena in Paris, France on the 7th.

Ahn Se-young won all 5 games against Xu Wen-chi and continued his record of no losses. Ahn Se-young will compete with world number 6 He Bingjiao (China) to advance to the semifinals on the 8th. He Bingjao advanced to the quarterfinals by beating world number 21 Busanan Omboomrungpan (Thailand) 2-0 (21-17 21-19). Ahn Se-young is ahead of He Bing-jiao with 6 consecutive wins after 4 consecutive losses.

Game 1 was tight, with Ahn Se-young being dragged until the last minute. Ahn Se-young barely showed his characteristic body-throwing defense that day. He seemed like he didn’t want to do anything too extreme. As his left and right defense width narrowed, Xu Wenji’s attacks inside the line were often successful. Ahn Se-young, who entered the interval with a score of 9-11, scored 4 points in a row and won 1 game at 18-19 by combining opponent’s mistakes and diagonal smash attacks.

In the second game, Ahn Se-young’s footwork became more and more agile, while Xu Wen-chi’s shot accuracy decreased, resulting in an easy win for Ahn Se-young. Ahn Se-young widened the gap to 11-7 with a successful diagonal attack at 7-7, and ended the game with four consecutive points at 12-10 and five consecutive points at 16-11. Xu Wenqi committed suicide by making a series of mistakes when Seunggi went to An Seyoung. Ahn Se-young, who finished the round of 32 the previous day in 35 minutes, finished the round of 16 today in 44 minutes.

In addition, in the women’s singles, world No. 2 Chen Yufei (China) defeated No. 34 Rine Christophersen (Denmark) 2-0 (22-20 21-18) to join the quarterfinals. Tai Tzu-ying (Taiwan), ranked 3rd in the world, also advanced to the quarterfinals, beating 9th-ranked Wang Ziyi (China) 2-0 (21-19 21-10).

In Korea, world 3rd place mixed doubles Seungjae Seo (Samsung Life Insurance) and Chae Yu-jeong (Incheon International Airport) defeated 26th place Yuki Kaneko and Misaki Matsumoto (Japan) 2-1 (21-17 18-21 21-15) to take 7th place. Kim Won-ho (Samsung Life Insurance) and Jeong Na-eun (Hwasun County Office) advanced to the quarterfinals, beating 21st ranked Terry Hee and Jessica Tan (Singapore) 2-0 (21-17 21-19).
