32 Young Archers Compete in Sonora’s Archery World Cup Final

Hermosillo, Son. The Final of the Sonora 2023 Archery World Cup was inaugurated with the presentation of the 32 youngest archers at the international level in Hermosillo; The National Sports Commission and the Sports Commission in Sonora together with the Archery Word Cup organize the international competition to be held this September 9 and 10 on the esplanade of Plaza Zaragoza, in front of the Government Palace of Sonora.

This competition will be between 16 women and 16 men, from 15 countries that are India, Korea, the United States, Colombia, Great Britain, Denmark, Taiwan, France, Germany, Slovakia, Holland, Italy, Moldova, Brazil and Mexico.

The 32 competitors are divided into 16 archers and 16 archers who will see action in two modalities, Compound -they compete on Saturday- and Recurve -who compete on Sunday-, the jousts will be on September 9 and 10, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Pacific time) in the women’s branch; and from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., in the men’s branch.

On Sunday at 4:00 p.m., the women’s Recurve competition is scheduled where the Sonoran archer and Olympic medalist, Alejandra Valencia, will be there. Prior to the opening, the official draw was also held to define the keys to the competition, where the archers met their rivals.

Four Mexicans will participate in this international tournament, Alejandra Valencia from Hermosillo, bronze medalist at the Tokyo 2023 Olympic Games, who has just won the silver medal at the Berlin 2023 World Archery Championship, last August; in addition to Dafne Quintero in Compuesto femenil; Miguel Becerra in Men’s Compound and Matías Grande in Men’s Recurve.

The event was hosted by Ana Gabriela Guevara, head of the National Sports Commission, and Erubiel Durazo, in charge of the state-level agency; As part of World Archery (International Archery Federation), Ugur Erender, president of the organization, addressed a few words to those present.

“Thank you all very much, welcome to this event that in Sonora receives the best archers in the world, it is a pleasure to have this great event in our land. Here in Sonora, it is the birthplace of great athletes, and we could not stay without delighting in one of the best athletes in the state and in Mexico, Alejandra Valencia,” she explained.

The headquarters of this competition is the esplanade of the Government Palace of the State of Sonora, in Plaza Zaragoza, in the Historic Center of Hermosillo with a scene of the Desert, cacti and the two Palaces of the city.
