The club competition with the largest number of participants in Korean badminton history was upgraded to the presidential flag and held.

The ‘2024 Presidential National Badminton Championships’ was held in Busan on the 2nd and 3rd. For the past 30 years, it has been held as the ‘Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism National Badminton Competition for Lifestyle Sports’, but this year it was changed to the Presidential Period.

As such, it was held on the largest scale ever. A total of 6,120 people from 12 cities and provinces, including Busan, Gyeongnam, Daegu, and Jeju, participated and competed in six stadiums, including Gangseo Gymnasium, Geumjeong Gymnasium, and Gijang Gymnasium in Busan.

The opening ceremony was attended by Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Jang Mi-ran, Korea Badminton Association President Kim Taek-gyu, Busan City Badminton Association President Kim Deok-shin, Korea Sports Promotion Foundation Chairman Cho Hyeon-jae, and Busan Metropolitan City Executive Mayor Lee Jun-seung. In the overall rankings, the badminton team from Busan Metropolitan City, the host city, won the overall championship and received 2 million won in prize money and other prizes.

Chairman Kim Taek-gyu, the head of the competition, said, “It is still not up to the pre-COVID-19 situation, but it was upgraded to a presidential flag competition and was a competition that attracted a lot of interest from enthusiasts.” He then emphasized, “We expect more enthusiasts to participate in future competitions and we will work hard to provide more enjoyment.”
