In Ligue 1, things are taking their usual course: PSG is leading the table by a large margin, Kylian Mbappé is the most valuable player in the world and top scorer and the league reliably produces great talent. As part of this update, 132 professionals have received a new market value and some of the biggest upgrades this time go to U21 players, while the biggest devaluation is again for Randal Kolo Muani gives.

Who is Leny Yoro and why is he worth 40 million euros?

The biggest jump in his market value was made by Lille homegrown Leny Yoro, who was upgraded from 25 million to 40 million euros at the age of 18, making him the world’s most valuable defender up to the age of 19. Ronan Caroff, area manager TM France, says: “During the winter transfer window, PSG and Real Madrid also joined the interested parties for Yoro, who is considered THE defensive talent of all in France. Its new market value takes this development into account.” In an international comparison, Yoro overtakes Mohamed Simakan, among others (Leipzig), Nico Schlotterbeck (BVB) and is on the same level as Ousmane Diomande (Sporting) and Fikayo Tomori (Milan).

The fact that Lille is fighting for the Champions League places is mainly due to the strong defense, which kept 21 clean sheets in 38 games across all competitions – Yoro played in 20 games. In Ligue 1, only one other teenager has played more minutes than Lille’s central defender: Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes (+2 to 12m) with 2,250 minutes is ahead of Yoro with 2,039 minutes.

PSG striker Kolo Muani has only played 882 minutes and six goals in Ligue 1 so far, whose transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt to Paris was forced on Deadline Day at the beginning of September. Since then, he has been looking for the lightness that made him one of the most sought-after attackers in 2022/23 and is again devalued by 10 million euros – this time to 60 million euros.

“Compared to the 95 million euros invested, Kolo Muani is having a disappointing season. He was supposed to be the new goal machine at PSG alongside Mbappé, but it is mid-March and Mbappé is the only Parisian who was able to break the ten-goal mark. This devaluation was unavoidable,” explains France expert Caroff Kolo Muani’s new market value.

In the ranks of the fourth most valuable squad in the world there is a net loss of 11 million euros, but there are also big winners such as U21 national player Bradley Barcola (+10 to 40 million) and Brazilian winter signing Lucas Beraldo (+5 to 20 million), who is already a regular in Luis Enrique’s team.

“The pressure of being the most expensive winter transfer in Ligue 1 with a transfer fee of 20 million euros didn’t affect him and so Beraldo did well as a 20-year-old who had no experience in Europe. He benefited from Milan Skriniar’s injury and Nuno Mendes’ slow comeback and impressed both in central defense and on the left side. “If PSG dances at three weddings for a long time, he will remain an asset,” says Caroff.

Since the end of December, the 18-year-old midfield all-rounder Désiré Doué has become increasingly important at Stade Rennes in his second professional season. The homegrown player recently impressed on the left wing and is being upgraded from 15 million to 20 million euros and is moving into the global top 5 in the ranking of the most valuable midfielders up to 18 years of age.

“After only five starting eleven appearances out of 23 possible before New Year’s Eve, it seemed as if Doué’s rapid development was taking a break. But under the new coach Julien Stéphan he regained his regular place and is one of the faces of the recovery in Rennes,” said Caroff. The France U21 international contributed six scorer points to his team’s strong run, which finished in 13th place in December and is now no longer looking at the relegation place, but towards the European Cup (the Ligue 1 table).

RC Lens are once again looking towards the Champions League, where central defender Kevin Danso is one of the long-running favorites. The market value of the Austrian national player has only known one direction since his 5.5 million euro transfer from FC Augsburg to Lens: While it was still at 5 million euros in 2021, it has now climbed to a career high of 22 million thanks to the seventh revaluation 25 million euros. This makes Danso currently the fourth most valuable Austrian – first place is still occupied by Real Madrid’s David Alaba, who is valued at 30 million euros.

This is how transfer market market values work

The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.

The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
