“We want to move from the Park”: Nasser Al-Khelaïfi’s resounding declaration on the future of PSG

Nasser Al-Khelaïfi had little taste for Anne Hidalgo’s words, earlier in the week and in recent months in general. The mayor of Paris had repeated that the Parc des Princes was “not for sale” and the Paris Council also reaffirmed this Tuesday the town hall’s intention not to sell the Paris Saint-Germain grounds. PSG, which has been seeking to become the owner of the stadium for many years, is at an impasse. The club president spoke Thursday morning on the sidelines of the 48th UEFA Congress in Paris.

“It’s too easy to say now that the stadium is no longer for sale,” declared Nasser Al-Khelaïfi on France Info and RMC. We know what we want, we wasted years trying to buy the Park. It’s over now. We want to move from the Park. »

An emergency meeting this Thursday

The president of Paris Saint-Germain estimates he has lost eight years of work. The club also intends to put an end to all its investments in the stadium. A meeting is planned for this Thursday afternoon with the team responsible for its development. For several months now, relations between Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and Anne Hidalgo have become significantly strained, due to the conflict linked to the purchase of the Park.

During an interview he gave us at the beginning of the year, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi indicated on the Park file: “The truth is that we do not deserve what is done to us at Paris. (…) We have done a lot for the city, for the stadium. We invested more than 70.75 million euros. (…) We plan to invest but we don’t want to wait long. We can’t wait 5 years. We can’t stay like this.”

Nasser Al-Khelaïfi reappointed to the UEFA Executive Committee

At the same time, the Parisian president was reappointed to the UEFA Executive Committee. With the general director of Atlético de Madrid, he will represent the European Club Association (ECA). In a press release, beIN MEDIA GROUP welcomed the news. The group speaks of a decision which reflects the commitment of the two men “to drive progressive reforms within European football”.

Nasser Al-Khelaïfi himself reacted to this reappointment: “It is an honor and a privilege to be reappointed to the UEFA Executive Committee for a second term, with Miguel Ángel Gil Marin, member of the board of directors of the ECA”.
