Villeneuve-d’Ascq Secures Victory Against Miskolc to Keep Euroleague Final Four Hopes Alive

Villeneuve-d’Ascq was obliged to win this Wednesday against Miskolc to maintain a chance of qualifying for the Euroleague Final Four, and the northern club did so. The trend seen during the defeat in the first leg in Hungary (76-66) however did not reverse in the first quarter. The Northerners had a catastrophic start to the match, trailing 8-21 after 10 minutes of play.

But, true to their nicknames, the Guerrières did not give up and gradually got back into the match. The French, buoyed by a fiery crowd, took 12 points from the visitors in the second quarter then 5 in the second to lead by 4 points.

They then did not tremble, carried by the 24 points of Janelle Salaün and the 18 points of Kennedy Burke, to win 63-59. Villeneuve-d’Ascq will travel to Hungary again in a decisive match for qualification for the European top 4 next week. A place in the Final Four would be a first for the northern club, and a first for a French club since Bourges in 2014.
