Vertex Shizuoka came from behind to end their losing streak with 3 points. As the 5th place team in the West Region, they faced Fukushima, 5th place in the East Region, on the road and won 88-79. This is their third consecutive win over Fukushima this season. Shizuoka, who were in 3rd place and within the wild card (WC) range (within 2nd place) to advance to the playoffs (PO), used their strength to overwhelm their opponent who was in 4th place.

PG Naoaki Hashimoto (31), who played for Fukushima for two seasons until last season, showed great performance against his former club. They lost control from the beginning, and at one point allowed a lead of up to 13 points in the first half of the first quarter. Hashimoto contributed by sinking three consecutive 2-point shots into the ring in the second half, tied at 7-18. It gave the team momentum. Then, midway through the second quarter, the team took the lead for the first time, 29-28. In the third quarter, the score was 38-40, and the score was 61-60 heading into the final quarter.

Once the gears of offense and defense started turning, everyone gritted their teeth and chased the ball. In the end, they maintained their lead, which had increased to 10 points without ever being reversed. They dominated the ball with 48 rebounds compared to the opponent’s 33. C John Harler (24) scored 24 points and 17 R, the most for both teams, and C Kenny Lawson Jr. (35) also scored 19 points and 10 R, making them both double-doubles. PG Yasutomu Yamada (25) supported the attack with 8 points and a career-high 15 assists.

The team played two-thirds of its 60 games in this match. 20 games left. The fierce battle to break into the WC continues. We want to win our second consecutive game today, the 18th.
