Usher’s Lukewarm Halftime Show Performance at Super Bowl Final

This Sunday evening, the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers faced each other in Las Vegas during the Super Bowl, that is to say the final of the NFL, the American football championship. A sporting but also musical meeting, thanks to the legendary half-time show (halftime show), provided this year by RnB singer Usher.

The show begins with Usher dressed exclusively in white. The staging is rather sober : no singing suspended in the air like Rihanna last year, nor buildings rising from the ground like with Dr Dre in 2022. The singer is on a simple round stage, surrounded by young people partying and marching band musicians .

As usual, he performs fluid dance steps. He sings in live and does not playback, which is rare enough in this type of show to be noted. Usher nevertheless lacks vocal power – this may be due to his microphone, failing at the very beginning of his performance.

The singer will then be joined by Alicia Keyssublime in a bright red jumpsuit, for a powerful but intimate interpretation of If I Ain’t Got You around a piano. They continue with the love song My Boo.

Then the pace quickens and the guests are linked together. HER energizes the atmosphere on the guitar. Usher launches into a rollerblading choreography, beautifully executed but very kitsch. Rapper Ludacris launches into his song Yeah.

Bilan du spectacle : a nice performance, but a little lukewarm compared to the usual excesses of halftime show. Thirty-year-olds will be happy to have seen the artists of their youth take the stage together, and Lil Jon’s supercharged performance on Turn Down for What save the furniture.
