With a current world ranking of 39, the Australian duo still must be vigilant with possible threats from New Zealand team members, Adam Jeffrey and Justine Villegas in the position of third seed. Members of the 2023 Australian World Junior team, Asher Jing Jie Ooi and Priska Kustiadi will also be looking to test themselves against their more experienced compatriots.
Anchoring the bottom half of the draw are the New Zealand pair of Edward Lau and Shaunna Li. Another long-time pair, they spent time in 2023 training in Thailand before playing at the Sydney International where they were bundled out in the quarterfinals. Back on Australian soil, they may be looking to remedy unfinished business in their quest for a championship title.
Other players that have a chance to rock the mixed doubles boat are long time New Zealand representatives Dylan Soedjasa and Anona Pak. Jaden Mingoa/Camelia Zhou (NZL) and Jordan Wang/Sydney Tjonadi (AUS) were members of their respective World Junior teams in 2023 but now step up to this open tournament with nothing to lose in their bid for excellence. Don’t dismiss the experience of Rayne Wang/Kaitlyn Ea (AUS) who sit comfortably in the upper realms of the bottom half of the draw.
