Max Kruse Criticizes Former National Coach Joachim Löw: “Hypocritical” Expulsion from German National Team

Throughout his career, Max Kruse was known for his loose mouth. Now he is causing a stir again with a strong criticism of former national coach Joachim Löw.

In his podcast “Flatterball”, which he runs together with Martin Harnik, the former offensive player recently spoke about his departure from the German national team.

“Stupid idea” reason for the booting?

According to Kruse, an incident from November 2013, when the DFB team was in England, was said to be the reason for the expulsion: “We first played poker. And as I am, I come up with stupid ideas and quickly decided called someone to the room after 11 p.m.,” Kruse reported. The coaching team must have caught wind of this, because a little later team manager Oliver Bierhoff and assistant coach Hansi Flick showed up at his door. Bierhoff is said to have asked him to send the woman away. “We’ll talk about the rest tomorrow,” said the former DFB official, according to Kruse.

The next day, Bierhoff, Flick and Löw talked to Kruse. “They said: We are very happy with you in terms of football. You can now think about whether football is more important to you than the sideline,” said Kruse. The three warned him that he could no longer make such a mistake.

Kruse: “Then just tell me: ‘Max, you screwed up’!”

The incident was over for Kruse, but not for Joachim Löw, according to the 35-year-old’s accusation. Because unlike many of his teammates, he was not nominated for the 2014 World Cup. “I found that so hypocritical,” Kruse rumbled and added, “then just tell me: ‘Max, you screwed up, that’s it for you in the national team.’ Just follow through strictly. But to act as if I would get another chance and then just not invite me…”

To make matters worse, he was asked to shoot a video for the 30-man squad at the World Cup at short notice, only to be rejected a day later: “I would have totally understood if they threw me out straight away. But I know all this drama “Not,” criticized the former Bundesliga professional.

After the World Cup he made one or two appearances in the DFB jersey, but he couldn’t really get off to a good start. With the 2021 Olympic Games, Kruse was at least able to appear in a major event for Germany. At that time, the team was not looked after by Joachim Löw, but by Stefan Kuntz.
