Tuchel rejects Hamann apology
Thomas Tuchel rejected Sky expert Dietmar Hamann’s apology after his critical statements towards the Bayern Munich coach and followed up in the ongoing dispute with the ex-national player. “The things that happened during my fan club visit were taken completely out of context. Statements were deliberately made that were not true,” said Tuchel after the 3-1 (1-1) against Borussia Mönchengladbach in a pool interview with ran, Sport1 and ZDF.
“We were all shocked by what he made of it, so it doesn’t matter whether he apologized,” Tuchel continued: “I don’t buy it from him – and that’s why it (the apology, editor) also not relevant.”
During a visit to the fan club last Sunday, the 50-year-old answered a general question that he would be interested in foreign countries again and emphasized that Spain in particular had “an exceptional league”. Hamann sharply criticized this statement.
Bayern then complained in a statement on Monday about “unobjective statements” about Tuchel, without mentioning Hamann’s name. “He didn’t say that he would like to train in Barcelona or Spain. I would like to apologize to Thomas Tuchel and Bayern for that,” said Hamann.
After the success over Gladbach, Tuchel also complained more generally about what he saw as the “extremely personal” and “unobjective” reporting. The “newspaper with big letters” recently “overheard” him “bitching to himself” during the game in Augsburg (3:2). “For me, a limit has been crossed.”
