The Ultimate Cricket Parody: A Hilarious Take on a Complex Sport

There is almost nothing that doesn’t exist in the network of networks: brilliant, interesting, useful and wonderfully superfluous. This time: The ultimate cricket parody

Most team sports are easy to understand even for uninformed observers. Regardless of whether it is football, water polo, handball or volleyball: who is fighting against whom and how and how points are to be scored becomes clear after just a short look at a game. The rules of games such as baseball, football – and especially the British national sport of cricket – are more inaccessible. You can find a successful parody of this sport – and English TV viewing habits – on YouTube at .

Here, the Dutch comedy collective “Jiskefet” has produced an incredibly entertaining five-minute film that shows a British sports team practicing a bizarre lawn sport discipline. Dressed in casual British clothing, the team goes about erratic activities: some players let a round ring roll across the grass, others run after it, there is a little board game interlude in between, and a mysterious one-man changing room is also part of the game. Unlike other competitive sports, the athletes’ activities are always carried out with graceful movements and without haste. The mysterious game is led by a hectically whistling referee and wonderfully saturated and brash commentary by a duo of presenters. Good entertainment!

Now our question: When was the first time an official international cricket game was canceled – and which nations played against each other? Please send your solution (year and names of the states) to [email protected].

The deadline for entries is February 18, 2024, 9 p.m. We are giving away an eBook voucher worth 25 euros. The winner will be notified in writing. Last week’s solution was “Texas Instruments TI-59”.
