The Port of Huelva promotes the diversification of its traffic |

The Port of Huelva (Spain) continues to promote the diversification of its traffic by granting a record number of concessions and authorizations for public port space in 2023, totaling 4.1 million square meters distributed among three hundred companies.

In fact, the Huelva enclave has granted more than 514,000 m² in concessions and more than 60,500 m² in authorizations during the past year, due to the growth of port activity and the incursion into new industrial activities, such as those related to clean energy, bulk energetic liquids, recycling, production of biofuels, solid fuels and boilermaking.

Regarding the volume of merchandise, the Andalusian site has closed the year 2023 with a total of 30 million tons and uneven behavior due to traffic. For example, a decrease of 9.18% is observed in the movement of liquid bulk, despite increases of 36% in diesel traffic and 39% in gasoline. In turn, solid bulk traffic has experienced a slight drop.

Likewise, the movement of general merchandise has registered an increase of 15.4%, while that of containers has reached more than 87,900 TEUS, representing an annual increase of 8.16%. Regarding operations with the Canary Islands, more than 34,000 UTIs have been recorded in 2023, with an increase of 13.14%, in addition to a 22.91% increase in the number of vehicles moved under the merchandise regime, exceeding the 20,800 units.

The good results obtained are confirmation that the Port of Huelva wants to diversify its activity. In January, there was a 6% increase in port traffic, with a total of 2.9 million tons per month, highlighting the 7% increases in liquid bulk traffic, exceeding 2.2 million tons, and 30% in general merchandise, which has exceeded 129,300 tons.

In a context in which technology plays an increasingly crucial role in ports, the Port Authority of Huelva has announced that it intends to establish an office dedicated to the management of technological projects.
