DeWayne Russell (30) played in his home country USA. Plus in France and Italy. His brother Daron (25) is under contract with Manisa BBSK in Turkey. Since the beginning of last season, DeWayne has been with EWE Baskets Oldenburg in the Easycredit Basketball Bundesliga.

Russell was the league’s leading scorer last season with 20.3 points. Normally a ticket for a more wealthy team abroad – even with an ongoing contract.

Russell: “I signed here for two years. This is an obligation for me towards my teammates and my coach. But we also feel really comfortable as a family in Oldenburg. My wife Alexis really wanted to stay here. Our daughter Indie Rae goes to kindergarten in Oldenburg. We didn’t want to rip them out again straight away. She’s already learning German hard here.”
