Aeroméxico activated a passenger protection policy due to the new visa requirement for Mexicans in Canada, which came into effect this Thursday.
In a statement, the airline indicated that the policy applies to Mexican passengers with a ticket issued with plate 139, including shared code AM, issued before February 29, 2024. This measure will be valid until March 31, 2024.
The Canadian government reported that starting February 29, Mexicans who wish to enter the country must obtain a visitor visa, which was confirmed by Mexican authorities this morning.
With the new measure, starting at 10:30 p.m. this Thursday, Mexicans traveling to Canada must meet new requirements to be able to obtain an electronic travel authorization (ETA); although if you already have this document, it will be automatically canceled unless you have a valid work or study permit.

Aeroméxico will offer those affected the equivalent of 100 percent of the original value of the ticket, or a change applicable to any airline route valid for one year from the date of issue.
It is the second time that Canada imposes visas for Mexicans due to the increase in refugee applications. In July 2009, the government led by Stephen Harper implemented the measure, which was revoked in 2016.
