Tom Brady is the star of ‘The Dinasty’, the new Apple TV+ documentary about the New England Patriots between the 2000 and 2020 NFL seasons. In it, the best quarterback in history revealed why he left the team with which he won six Super Bowls over two decades.
The quarterback noted that his relationship with head coach Bill Belichick was no longer the best and that was a decisive factor when choosing a new team in 2020 free agency.
“Coach Belichick and I did what we love and competed together for 20 years, but I wasn’t going to sign another contract (in New England) even if I wanted to play until I was 50,” Brady said. “Based on the development of the relationship, I was not willing to continue with that.”
Brady was looking for a pay raise in his final years as a professional and Belichick, who was also the team’s general manager, decided not to give it to him. In the end, the QB signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and managed to add another Vince Lombardi trophy to his cabinet.
During his time with the Patriots, Brady played 285 regular season games and accumulated 74,571 yards with 541 touchdowns and 179 interceptions. The University of Michigan graduate was the winner of Super Bowls XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI and LIII. Plus, he was the MVP in four of them.
