The national senior basketball team of the Dominican Republic began its training this Thursday afternoon towards the 2025 AmeriCup qualifier under the command of its leader David Díaz.
The list of players who attended this first preparation session was headed by the talented Diego Moquete, Raymer Santana, Shamil Ballas, Brayan Ramírez, Diego Colón, among others.
Díaz and his coaching staff remained for two hours at the Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace.
“I am very happy with the call because some of the guys who are on the call-up list have come and I am sure we will do a good job,” said the Dominican coach.
“Today has been a somewhat jovial day, a day to get to know each other, to explain to the boys what the guidelines that we are going to take in the coming days will be and try to get them to adapt,” he explained.
The Dominican team begins the AmeriCup qualifier with two matches against the Mexican team. The first will be held this Friday, February 23 at the Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace starting at 8:30 p.m., while on the 26th both teams will face each other on Aztec soil.
The last time the Dominicans and the Mexicans collided was at the Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador 2023, in the dispute for the gold medal won by the representatives of the Dominican Republic, in a final game that they won 89-72 with the offense of Andrés Feliz, who scored 20 points, helped by Víctor Liz, 17.
Díaz was accompanied by members of his coaching staff Abraham Disla, Julio Duquela, Jonathan Matos, José Santos Ceballos, Eliezer Luvin and physical trainer Josué Díaz.
Among the players called up are captain Víctor Liz, Andrés Feliz, Jean Montero, Gelvis Solano, Eloy Vargas, Rigoberto Mendoza, Luis Montero, Ángel Delgado, Luis Santos, Antonio Peña, LJ Figueroa, Brandone Francis, Jassel Pérez, the brothers Randy and Richard Bautista, among others.
Training continues this Friday at the same time (5:00 pm) and at the same headquarters of the Sports Palace.

Public tickets will be available for sale through the Uepa Tickets company and at the Fedombal offices.
