The 2024 Slam Dunk Contest Preview: A Look at the Field and What to Expect

Let’s be clear: the field for the 2024 edition of the Slam Dunk Contest is not the most attractive we’ve seen. Only one All-Star – Jaylen Brown – accompanied by a rookie and two G League players. We still find Mac McClung, who made us really like it last year with some original dunks. Come on, it’s preview time!

The participants :

  • Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics)
  • Jacob Toppin (Westchester Knicks, G League)
  • Mac McClung (Osceola Magic, G League; champion en titre)
  • Jaime Jaquez Jr. (Miami Heat)

What happened last year?

A board lit up by the impressive dunks of Mac McClung, invited by the NBA as a G League player. And the feeling of a successful competition, undoubtedly the most successful since the banger of the year 2016. A grumpy Karl Malone at the judges’ table, but a successful competition which left the public very enthusiastic at the end. The taste of too little at the end of a competition evening doesn’t happen all the time. Let’s hope that’s the case again tonight!

Why do you have to get up this night?

And “wind of freshness”, we wrote at the time to talk about the 2023 edition. And that’s what we’re expecting for this evening, with candidates who will no doubt have prepared some nice little combinations. Jaylen Brown left hand, no, don’t mess around. We are also and above all waiting for the Mac, with the desire to defend its title. Jacob Toppin to honor the mif’ which specializes in the art of breaking circles. Jaime Jaquez Jr. who represents Miami and also knows how to take off properly when necessary. Bulk ? Probably not the flashiest competitors, but a competition which is riding last year’s wave and which must extend it until next year. With Wemby?
