Tatjana Maria celebrated another success after two significant defeats on the tennis tour. The world number 50. won the start of the WTA tournament in Dubai against Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva, who was three places higher, 6:2, 6:1. In the second round, Maria will face either the 15th seeded Ukrainian Elina Switolina or her compatriot Anhelina Kalinina.

At the two previous tournaments in Cluj-Napoca/Romania and Doha/Qatar, Maria (36) was eliminated early after significant defeats. At the $3.2 million tournament in the United Arab Emirates, she is the only German in the field, which is led by world number one Iga Swiatek. The Pole celebrated her first tournament victory of the season on Saturday in Doha.
