Tennis: Medvedev confirms withdrawal from Doha, Sinner ‘sees’ overtaking – Tennis

Danil Medvedev will not take the field in Doha, it’s now official. And Jannik Sinner sees his chances of overtaking third place in the ATP rankings increasing. The Russian tennis player, beaten by the Italian in the Australian Open final, has made his withdrawal from the tournament he won last year official. “Unfortunately I won’t be able to try to defend the title in Doha, I’m not 100% ready to compete yet” he declared, as reported on the tournament’s Instagram profile.

At this point Sinner would move up one position, from 4 to 3 currently held by Medvedev, if he goes to the final at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, where this evening he is involved in the quarterfinals against the Canadian Raonic.
