Tatjana Maria loses in Dubai

Tennis player Tatjana Maria was eliminated in the second round of the WTA tournament in Dubai. The 36-year-old Swabian lost to Ukrainian Jelina Switolina 3:6, 3:6 at the WTA 1000 event.

At the start, Maria was the only German participant in Dubai to hold her own against the Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva.
Australian Open winner Aryna Sabalenka from Belarus also surprisingly failed. The world number two lost her first appearance since the Grand Slam title in Melbourne 7:6 (7:5), 3:6, 0:6 against Donna Vekic from Croatia.
