The New England Patriots have told Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke that he will be waived, ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported Monday.

The Patriots had claimed Rourke off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars in December and re-signed him in March.

The 25-year-old from Victoria spent the 2021 and 2022 seasons with the CFL’s B.C. Lions and threw for 4,035 yards with 28 touchdowns in 22 games and 11 starts.

He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 2022 despite missing nearly half of the regular season due to injury.

Rourke signed a three-year contract with the Jaguars ahead of the 2023 season.

New England went 4-13 last year and parted ways with legendary coach Bill Belichick. The Patriots have already shuffled their quarterback depth chart trading Mac Jones to Jacksonville, drafting Drake Maye third overall and signing veteran Jacoby Brissett. New England also used the sixth-round pick they acquired from the Jaguars in the Jones deal to select quarterback Joe Milton.
