Successes and Setbacks for TSV Bayer 04 Judoka at West German Championships

Three vice-West German champions were crowned on Saturday (February 17, 2024) in the U18 competitions. Sveyarika Konrad (up to 63 kg) has booked her ticket to the German Individual Championships. She won the first three fights confidently and made it to the final. Here her opponent was able to take advantage of Sveya’s carelessness for a score that the TSV athlete was unfortunately unable to catch up with. Noa Lema-Lefeuvre (up to 46 kg) can be very satisfied with how the competition went. He had two byes and came into the final having won two fights. Here too he was very committed and can be satisfied with second place. Luca Schaff (up to 55 kg) competed in a strong group with 18 participants. Unfortunately, the judoka was unable to win the final.
The three athletes will compete on the weekend of 2nd/3rd. March 2024 at the German U18 Individual Championships in Leipzig.
Another fourth TSV judoka will also fight there. Timo Küpper was ill at the West German individual championships and was suspended by the state coach.
The tournament was particularly disappointing for the judoka Sergej Scherer and Niklas Jakobs, who both took fourth place. They both initially fought for third place. In both weight classes, the state coaches decided to keep one qualifying place available for squad athletes who were unable to compete in this championship. This is the usual procedure in such situations. So third place had to be fought for because NRW only has four starting places available at the German Championships.
The judoka Lena Beyer, Matti Kellerberg and David Topolenko were also unable to qualify for the DM.

With Björn Konrad, Arne Schorn and Leonie Wickert, three TSV Judoka qualified for the German U21 Championships in Frankfurt/Oder on Sunday (February 18, 2024). Björn Konrad was able to confidently win all four fights early in his new weight class up to 90 kg and be crowned West German champion. Came in the same weight class Arne Schorn to a good bronze rank. Leonie Wickert (up to 52 kg) was only beaten in the final in a record-breaking fight time of over 11 minutes (instead of the usual 4 minutes) and became vice-West German champion.
Niklas Jakobs as a U18 player had a great tournament in the weight class up to 66 kg after he fought on Saturday. Through excellent ground work he made it to the semi-finals, which the judoka unfortunately lost – as well as the small final for bronze. He still stood up to the significantly older and more experienced athletes for a long time and ultimately came fifth.
Youth coach Béla Knoth also came fifth up to 73 kg. In the same weight class, our other youth coach Elias Radke had a bit of bad luck with judges’ decisions and came in ninth, far behind his own expectations.
Leif Schwarz (up to 81 kg) was also not satisfied. With two fights won and two defeats, he came in seventh place.
Unfortunately, Lena Beyer and Letizia Koslow were eliminated without any wins.
