State of Mexico Judo Delegation Prepares for Macro Regional Phase to Qualify for National Games

A total of 29 athletes make up the judo delegation of the State of Mexico to face the Macro Regional phase that will take place in mid-April in Querétaro, where delegations from 11 entities will participate and the main rival will be Jalisco.

The objective of the contest is to qualify the greatest number of athletes to the National stage of the Conade Games, in which they will seek to be protagonists in the medal table as they had done in previous editions.

“We took more athletes than in the previous edition, there are some categories where we do not have participation, such as +100kg, sub 15, women’s sub 18, 21, but there are others where there are good expectations of appearing in the medal table,” he noted. Rubén Mora, president of the Judo Association of the State of Mexico.

He added that the state phase where the delegation was defined was held in the “Soraya Jiménez Mendivil” gym in the Adolfo López Mateos Sports Unit of the UAEMex, although the Toluca Cup that was held in 2023 had already been taken as a reference, but many Athletes were not able to participate, hence the January selective was where they managed to show their good level to earn a place for the team.

Rubén Mora highlighted that during the Macro Regional the main rival will be Jalisco, however the Querétaro headquarters has also had significant growth, there are top-level athletes who will try to impose conditions to obtain their ticket to the national stage.

“But we will go with good athletes, especially in the sub 21, in addition to sub 18 cadets, as well as some of the sub 15, everyone is very eager and there you will see the entire work process, we want to improve the result of 2023 when a bronze medal was obtained,” added the sports leader.

He acknowledged that returning to the medal table will be a difficult challenge since the other states are doing a good job, however I am confident that not only should the bronze be repeated, the idea is to climb to win the gold.

Finally, he pointed out that for international events the only Mexican who is still in the fight for a ticket to the Olympic Games is Katia Castillo, who will soon face competitions in Brazil and Chile during April and May.
