Spanish Archery Championship: A Recap of the Results and Participation from Bercian Athletes

Between February 8 and 11, the Spanish archery championship in the minor, cadet, junior and senior categories. More than 600 archers from all over Spain traveled to the Andalusian city to participate in this sporting event that puts an end to the indoor competitions. In this national competition, apart from the individual competition, mixed teams and regional teams compete.

The Bercian representation was carried out by the brothers Alejandro and Héctor González Manuel and Beatriz Manuel Sánchez, all of them under the colors of Arco Club Valladolid.

The competition was opened by the youngest, who on Thursday the 8th shot the qualifying round. Thus, Héctor, in the U21 category in the compound bow, would be the first of the three to shoot his arrows. In this qualifying round the youngest achieved a creditable 3rd place with which he got a direct pass to the 1/8 finals. He would have worse luck on Friday in this phase of the championship, since he did not manage to overcome this eliminatory.

The turn for the senior archers would be on Saturday the 10th, when Beatriz, Alejandro and Héctor, all of them in the senior category, suffered uneven luck.

Alejandro was classified in 10th place out of a total of 99 archers, thus obtaining a direct pass to the 1/16 final to be held on Sunday. The youngest of the González Manuel family, after an excellent first round in which he finished in 15th place, could not keep up the pace in the second half. remaining in 43rd place, thus not being able to enter the knockout phase. In turn, Beatriz, like Héctor, did not place among the first 32, leaving her without options to shoot in the 1/16 final, having qualified in the 44th place in its category.

The knockout phase was not as satisfactory for Alejandro as the qualifying round, since the Ponferrad native did not manage to get past the 1/16 final, placing himself in the 17th place in his individual participation.

Regarding the participation by autonomies, both Alejandro and Héctor joined the Castilla y León team with their Arco Club Valladolid teammate Joaquín Vázquez, who after some exciting qualifying rounds, They fell in the semifinals, staying one step away from the podium and achieving a creditable and hard-fought 4th place.

Alejandro not only managed to enter the men’s team, but together with María Gómez from Palencia, also from Arco Club Valladolid, they would make up the mixed team, which after passing their first round against the team from the Balearic Islands, They could not overcome the ¼ final against the Aragonese, thus achieving a creditable 5th place in mixed teams.

A bittersweet weekend for the Bercians who return with the satisfaction of having been 3 of the only 5 people from León participating in this national, although The results with only 4th and 5th place were not as expected.

With this appointment in the Andalusian city they put an end to their theater season and begin to prepare the outdoor and 3D competitions that will begin shortly.
