Sky Secures ATP and WTA Rights, Offers Expanded Viewing Options for Tennis Fans

There’s good news for Sky customers – especially for tennis fans! Sky breaks through a barrier. That has advantages.

Sky customers and tennis viewers recently had to swallow hard because the TV broadcaster lost the rights for Wimbledon to Amazon Prime. However, Sky secured the TV rights for the ATP (men) and the WTA (women). And it gets even better!

Sky is making an additional offer to its viewers

With the new rights to ATP and WTA, Sky shows tennis live almost every day. As the online portal “Digital Fernsehen.de” reports, there are a total of over 80 tournaments with over 4,000 games on Sky Sport. Tennis fans are spoiled for choice. Sky is broadcasting more live tennis than ever before.

Sky always shows the best matches of the day on the 24-hour tennis channel “Sky Sport Tennis”. And from now on there is an additional offer: If several tournaments take place at the same time in a week, Sky Sport makes additional channels available – customers have the choice!

Is the model also used in other sports?

Sky has been offering all ATP and WAT tennis matches and courts on Sky Q since February 11th. Specifically, this means for tennis fans: You can also select and watch a match that is not currently running on the linear Sky Sport Tennis channel. At Sky Q you can find all matches in the sports section in the tennis section on the Sky Q interface. This additional offer will soon also be available to Wow customers.

And that wasn’t all: This offer could even be expanded to other sports, as “Digital Fernsehen.de” continues to write. One example, without official confirmation from Sky, would be MotoGP, which was also newly acquired.

It could also soon affect football

If two games in the Premier League overlap, they no longer necessarily have to be broadcast on two linear channels. And in the case of the Bundesliga, this method would also be worth considering. It will be interesting to see what Sky plans next.
