No injured players, Schalke coach Karel Geraerts can make full use of Holstein Kiel. This is what the S04 lineup could look like.

Gelsenkirchen/Kiel – “Never change a winning team” – coach Karel Geraerts could also follow this wisdom for FC Schalke 04’s away game at Holstein Kiel (to the live ticker) on Sunday (February 11th, 1:30 p.m.). The Belgian doesn’t have many reasons to change his starting eleven from the 1-0 win against Eintracht Braunschweig last week.

Schalke line-up against Kiel: Geraerts has to leave seven players at home

The staff situation couldn’t be better. Not a single player at the Royal Blues is currently injured. During FC Schalke 04’s 4-1 win in the secret friendly against SC Verl on Wednesday (February 7th), Dominick Drexler sustained a wound on his foot and had to be substituted, but the veteran would be ready for action against Holstein Kiel.

Karel Geraerts is therefore spoiled for choice for FC Schalke 04’s line-up against the North Germans. Of his 27 players in the squad, the coach has to leave seven professionals in Gelsenkirchen. The coach already did without Yusuf Kabadayi and Lino Tempelmann against Eintracht Braunschweig.

Schalke line-up in Kiel: Langer, Greiml and Ouedraogo stay in Gelsenkirchen

“Both were dissatisfied, I can understand that,” explained Karel Geraerts on Friday (February 9th) at the press conference before the game against Holstein Kiel and added: “We can only take 18 field players with us, so players stay out despite being in good shape. “

Three players should be clear: the third goalkeeper Michael Langer as well as Leo Greiml and Assan Ouedraogo, who are already training with the ball after their injuries and could possibly start team training after the game in Kiel. An operation on Sunday would come too early. It remains to be seen which four other professionals will also not find a place in Schalke’s lineup.

Schalke starting eleven against Holstein Kiel: Geraerts praises Matriciani for his effort

Despite Cedric Brunner’s return after his yellow card suspension and Brandon Soppy’s debut against Verl, there are no signs of a change in the starting line-up in Kiel. Karel Geraerts was “happy” with right-back Henning Matriciani’s performance against Braunschweig.

Schalke coach Karel Geraerts also gave Henning Matriciani special praise: “I can put him in the starting line-up and he does what he can, he gives his maximum.” The fact that one of the two right-backs can displace the 23-year-old from the line-up is unlikely.

Cedric Brunner was ill from Friday (February 2nd) to Tuesday (February 6th) and the defender may still be lacking strength. According to the coach, Brandon Soppy lacks rhythm in the game. The Frenchman was only used a little at FC Torino, to whom he was loaned out from Atalanta Bergamo. That was also obvious against Verl.
