After the unusual incident, which was shown live on Spanish television, Ocampos, visibly irritated, turns around and confronts the perpetrator. Vallecano captain Isi Palazon (29) rushes over and takes the pendant to his chest. Referee Hernández Maeso (35) also intervened and reported the incident to a delegate from Rayo Vallecano.

Ocampos after the game on DAZN: “I hope La Liga takes this as seriously as racism and things like that. I don’t think all the people of Rayo are like that because they have always treated us with respect, but there is always a fool.”

The winger continued: “If something like this happens in women’s football, we know what can happen. I held back because I have two daughters. Fools like these defile the rest of the fans who have behaved very well.”

Some fans laughed at the incident. But Rayo boss Raúl Martín Presa (47) said on Spanish TV that the club condemned the harassment and would take action: “We will identify the fan, his season ticket will be confiscated, he will be banned from the stadium and fined. But the club is not to blame and should not be punished.”

Sevilla also issued a statement on the scandal: “We would like to record our disgust at the incident that occurred on Monday during our game against Rayo Vallecano, in which our player Lucas Ocampos was shouted at in an obscene and completely inappropriate manner by a fan of the home team was insulted in a way.”
