That’s what The Associated Press learned Tuesday from a person familiar with the negotiations, who requested anonymity because the deal is conditional on Soler successfully undergoing medical examinations.

Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi still hoped to improve his roster before training camp opened. The arrival of the outfielder and designated hitter would give new manager Bob Melvin more depth in the outfield.

The 31-year-old Cuban was selected to the All-Star team for the first time, while wearing the colors of the Miami Marlins. Soler played in 137 games, hitting .250 with 36 home runs and 75 RBIs. He played 102 of those games as a designated hitter.

Soler will enter his 11th season in the MLB. He maintained offensive averages of .243/.330/.467 with 170 home runs and 452 RBIs.
