Speed skater Martina Sáblíková won another medal at the World Championships in Calgary. Like Thursday, she’s bronze. This time she won it on the 5000 meter track.

On her most successful track, Sáblíková already won ten gold, one silver and one bronze medal in her career at the World Championships. She added another bronze in Canada this year.

The Dutchwoman Joy Beune won the race ahead of her compatriot Irene Schouten. The Czech competitor lost 2.9 seconds to second place.

She defended her third place from last year and followed up on her performance on the 3000 meter track, where she was also third.

I have the best feeling that it was successful again. It was a thrilling race. I don’t really deal with statistics, but I’m happy when it works out. I enjoyed the ride” said an enthusiastic Sáblíková after the race.

A lot of Czechs who live here in Calgary also came, so I had an incredible ovation, it was great. I am very satisfied” revealed the Czech competitor.

Sáblíková also had to deal with an injury during the championship. “I have bruises on my left leg from skating. My ankle is so swollen that I’m glad to get on my skates. After the third, it was very swollen again, so I was glad that I could even start in the fifth,” said Sáblíková.

In total, Sáblíková has 26 medals (16 gold, 6 silver and 4 bronze) from all tracks at the World Championships in individual tracks (without the all-around). Only Ireen Wüstová (31) has more. Even with the World All-around Championship, Sáblíková has a total of 34 precious metals.
