Rising Archery Talent: Florian Schonmacker Shines at Belgian Youth Championship

The Silver Star Charleroi hosted the 2024 Belgian indoor youth championship on Sunday. The opportunity to take an interest in a young Carole champion, Florian Schonmacker. A report by Benoît Ronflette and Fabrice Pepe.

The look is concentrated. The body is well positioned. The arrow is shot and hits its target. At 17 years old, Florian Schonmacker is a great archery talent and already has an extensive track record for his age.

“I am Hainaut champion in different age categories,” explains Florian. “I also won titles as champion of Wallonia but especially champion of Belgium. I also had good results in an international tournament in Slovenia.”

It’s a discipline that he started somewhat by chance.

“It was at the campsite that I discovered this around twelve or thirteen years old,” continues Florian. “I immediately liked it and I went to the club. In this sport you need humility, not to think that if I mess up, it’s the equipment’s fault. You need a lot of concentration and stress management.”

His qualities have not gone unnoticed.

“I have a status with the adeps. This allows me to have additional training and therefore to continue to improve,” continues the Carolo archer.

The young Carolo sportsman has big ambitions for the future and keeps the Olympic Games in the back of his mind.

“Los Angeles in four years would be really good. I still need time and I still have to move on to an additional distance because I shoot at sixty meters and the Olympic discipline is at seventy meters,” concludes the young talent. carolo.
