Ricardo Pinto will sign a Minor League contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, according to sources informed the journalist Carlos Valmore Rodriguez. The signing will mark the pitcher’s return to the Major League Baseball (MLB) system after his dream season in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP).
It is necessary to remember that the right-hander was one of the main figures in the title obtained by the Tiburones de La Guaira both in Venezuela and in the Caribbean Series. Precisely that performance allowed him to get an offer from the organization that took him to the Major Leagues.
Ricardo Pinto, 29 years old, won the MVP of the LVBP final by not allowing a score in 14 innings. For his part, he also finished as the most outstanding player of the Caribbean Series by leaving a 0.84 ERA after two starts in which he only received one run. From the beginning of the winter leagues he behaved as the Ace in the Sharks rotation and performed as such.
Those were the numbers that caught attention in Philadelphia. The pitcher will begin the 2024 season in the Minor Leagues, however, with a good performance he could continue the construction of a dream year.
RETURN TO PHILADELPHIA
It is not the first time that Ricardo Pinto He is a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. The pitcher signed and received the call to the Major Leagues by the Quakers, which is why his current signing will mark his return to the organization.
The Guacara native signed his first professional contract with the Phillies in 2012 and quickly began to show good performances. In both leagues in Venezuela and the United States he showed the potential that made him a prospect.
Until in 2017 the Phillies called him to the Major Leagues and he participated in 25 games, all as a reliever. Even though he allowed 26 earned runs in 29.2 innings, Pinto sealed his major league passport.
Later, in 2019, he also played in the Major Leagues with the Tampa Bay Rays. But it was the Phillies that gave him the first opportunity and now a second to return to the MLB system.
