Reviving the Tradition: ‘Giocariamo pe’ strada’ Event Promotes Street Sports in Viterbo

Playing on the street: there are those who remember it, while the children of Viterbo rediscovered this custom last September, when throughout the day they were able to freely practice football, baseball, volleyball, basketball and more in Valle Faul.

In September the encore of the event dedicated to sport

Next September it will be repeated and doubled: two days organized – like the first edition of “Giocariamo pe’ strada” – by the Libertas sports center in collaboration with the Municipality and the support of Decathlon. In the meantime, some schools will receive the materials used last September: the donation begins on Wednesday 28th with the Carmine comprehensive school, followed by Canevari, Egidi, Ellera, Fantappiè, Pio Fedi and Vanni. This was communicated in the council room of Palazzo dei Priori by the mayor Chiara Frontini together with the sports councilor Emanuele Aronne, the councilor delegated for Education Rosanna Giliberto, the councilor Giancarlo Martinengo, the president of Libertas Viterbo Simone Bonolo, Elisabetta Teseo of Decathlon and the municipal employee Roberta De Angelis.

Frontini: “Recovery of urban spaces, relationships and a healthy way of living”

The Municipality donates soccer goals and balls, basketball hoops and balls, volleyball kits with related balls, badminton nets with rackets and shuttlecocks, ping pong tables with rackets and balls, roller skates and helmets, bows with rounded arrows to schools .
“The idea – explained Frontini – is that of a street event which brings together the recovery of urban spaces, relationships, greenery, a healthy way of living” and is “included in the vision of the city which has the administration”. Aronne highlighted that “schools are also a bastion of physical education: today there is a generation of physically unbalanced people, which is an ability that must be educated immediately”. Then, as if to prevent a possible objection, he added: “I know that we have not solved the problem of the gyms, but we are working on it, starting from the management regulation up to the structures which are in poor conditions.”
