Revival of Farum Badminton Club: Filling the Courts and Building Talent

Society’s general development and corona shutdowns were hard on the badminton clubs. To that extent, this was also felt in Farum Badminton Club. The ten badminton courts in Stenvadhallen were difficult to fill up.
But now the tide has turned!!
This has happened by investing heavily in the width.
– The other day we had an evening where we had to “fight” over the lanes. Our senior training and senior wide training together had over 40 players for training, says youth chairman Charlotte Hartvig with a big smile.
Senior chairman Daniel Roland smiles back. Because things are going well for Farum Badminton Club’s senior department.
– We have bet on the social side, and it has paid off. It was normal for the young people to switch to a club in the city when they moved to Copenhagen to study. Now they drive out here to play, says Daniel Roland.
This can be especially felt on the girls’ side, where there is progress. After many years with only two teams in the senior team tournament, Farum is fielding three teams this year.
– We would like to have four teams, but we need some girls to field the last team, says Daniel Roland.
Sportingly, Farum was down and about in Series 1 last year, but moved up again. This year, the first team is in the promotion play-off in the Sjællandsserien.
The club’s senior coaching team is managed by Michael Rasmussen, who has the very highest coaching qualification and has just become a national youth coach and is the sports manager at Greve Strand Badminton.
– Michael is really talented, and he knows how to turn training into a party for all participants, explains Daniel Roland.
This year, the coaching team has been expanded with the former national team player Frederik Colberg, who is in charge of the senior training once a week.
The club is demanding for the senior players with an annual joint trip to a tournament. Last year, the trip went to Odense, where the club paid for the hotel stay. It was a festive trip where unity was strengthened.

The youth department has managed to increase from 80 to 100 members.
– We are trying to do something for the breadth. This year we have a width training for U15 and U17 girls. We want them to keep playing badminton, explains Charlotte Hartvig.
Farum Badminton Club is good at training talented youth players. They are forwarded in the system. Charlotte’s son William is U17 elite and this year is at Ikast Sportscollege, but has also trained with the elite club Værløse Badminton, which has a training community with the surrounding clubs. This year, Farum does not have any players in the collaboration, but when a player reaches a high level, they get the offer.
Charlotte Hartvig has an important focus for her work.
– Going to badminton should be fun, says Charlotte.
Head coach Wenyan Li and a lot of assistant coaches – primarily from Farum’s youth department must ensure this.
Something could indicate that it has succeeded. Because the once empty badminton courts are being filled up again.
