Rémois Junya Ito accused of sexual assault by two women

The Japanese striker from Stade de Reims found himself at the heart of a controversy when two women accused him of sexual assault after a match in June.

Currently in Qatar where he is competing in the Asian Cup with his country, Rémois Junya Ito, 30, finds himself at the heart of a sexual assault case. The two women filed a complaint during the month of January for facts dating back to the summer of 2023 according to the media Daily Shincho.

The two women accuse Ito of having had non-consensual sexual relations after an alcoholic evening following a match between Japan and Peru (4-1) on June 20, 2023. The midfielder, who arrived in 2022 in Reims and starts indisputable, denied the facts, according to the Japanese press agency Kyodo, citing his lawyer who mentions accusations “totally unfounded”. He allegedly offered a settlement in exchange for money and a confidentiality clause so that the complaints of these two women would not reach Osaka.

Japanese police announced Thursday that they had opened an investigation against Reims international midfielder Junya Ito after Japanese media reported that two women accused him of sexual assault. “We have received a criminal complaint against him (Ito) and we have started the investigation”a spokesperson for the Osaka (west) police told AFP, refusing to give more details.

Questioned by the press in Doha, Japanese coach Hajime Moriyasu said: “I’m not completely aware (of the accusations) yet. I will take care of them after examining them.”
