Raptors Edge Out Hawks in Thrilling 123-121 Victory

A two-pointer from Bruce Brown with 11 seconds left in the game was the difference in a 123-121 victory for the Toronto Raptors on Friday night against the Atlanta Hawks.

Trae Young cut the lead to two points in the final second of the game with a shot from downtown, but the Hawks didn’t touch the ball again after that.

This is a second straight victory for the Raptors, after suffering a short streak of three consecutive losses. The victory is even more important for the Raptors as it allows the team to move within 3.5 games of the Hawks, who occupy 10th position in the East.

Friday night, Immanuel Quickley led the Raptors in scoring with 24 points and added 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Scottie Barnes contributed 20 points and rookie Gradey Dick had 18 points, the second-best tally of his career.

“It’s only two games (since the All-Star break), but what I really like about this group is how united it is,” Raptors head coach Darko Rajakovic said. They really enjoy being together and playing together. »

In the Hawks camp, Dejounte Murray scored twice with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while De’Andre Hunter provided 22 points. Young was held to just 11 points in 35 minutes of play.

Young averaged 34.3 points per game in his last three games against the Raptors this season. Friday night, however, he was limited to 11 points and seven assists.

“Overall, we did a really good job against Trae Young of stopping him from scoring and positioning himself,” Rajakovic said.

Hawks head coach Quin Snyder was ejected from the game with 4:25 left in the second quarter. Snyder stormed the field after Young appeared to injure his thigh during a struggle through a screen created by Poeltl.

Young was hopping on one leg and remained on the ground for a minute, but was able to continue after that.

“I was worried about Trae,” Snyder said. I probably deserved the expulsion. My reaction was emotional. »

After taking a 2-0 lead, the Hawks missed 13 straight shots and the Raptors took advantage to make the score 15-2.

In the first quarter, the Hawks made just one of their nine three-pointers. The team also missed five free throws.

The Raptors will try to score a third victory in a row on Monday, against the Indiana Pacers.
